About Mr. Cespedes

Dr. Joe Ivan Céspedes is a two time graduate of Texas State University. After completing his Bachelor of Science in exercise and sports science with magna cum laude honors, he was accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. During this time, he was featured in Texas State’s Hillviews magazine in which his interview provided insight into life in the Rio Grande Valley and his choice to pursue a career in physical therapy. This choice to pursue a career in healthcare is tightly intertwined with his roots in the valley and his calling to improve the quality of life for its residents.

As a licensed physical therapist, Dr. Céspedes has evaluated and treated patients of all ages, pediatric to geriatric, in a variety of care settings. He has experience in home health, skilled nursing facility, inpatient rehab, acute, and outpatient care. He has empowered others to live their fullest and most functional lives while in every stage of the rehabilitation process. While his scope of clinical practice is wide, he has a special interest in working with orthopedic and post-operative patients, such as those here at HMC. Dr. Céspedes also utilizes manual therapy techniques and return to sport training with a variety of youth and adult athletes for their recreational and competitive athletics. His clinical research includes work in injury prevention, such as his presentation at the 2015 annual Texas Physical Therapy Association conference entitled, “Correlation of Movement Screen Assessment Findings to Self-Report Ratings of Shoulder/Elbow Pain in College Baseball Pitchers.”

Dr. Céspedes is passionate about health, wellness, and encouraging others to become the best possible versions of themselves. During his spare time he enjoys traveling, exercising, reading, and spending time with family on the ranch.
